The Boom of 2012

Saturday I had the mother of all perms. We knew this girl was coming in ahead of time, and I was hand-picked to do her perm. I'll let you figure that one out as you continue reading. She had hair to her butt, and she wanted the tiniest, kinkiest curls we could possibly give her. Oh boy. We used 2 different sizes of boom rods for her hair - the biggest was the size of a pencil...the smallest was less than half that size. It took me 3 hours to wrap 2/3 of her head on my own, when my dear instructor, Ferida, came to my rescue and helped me finish for the last hour. From there, it took 4 of us (another instructor and another student) to rinse this woman's rods, neutralize (one student was solely in charge of holding her head up, because you have no idea how heavy those rods get!), and it took all of us 45 min. to unwrap the rods.

We left school that night at 6:30PM - hooray for overtime for me....her hair? Gorgeous! Perfectly spiraled, teeny-tiny curls. Just stunning!

I sure hope she likes it...what you don't know is what a HUGE pain in the bum this girl was. She was so fussy about every, single rod I wrapped - saying it was too loose or too tight, or it was laying funny....seriously. She wasn't happy when I tried to have another student help me wrap, because "she was doing a horrible job", she was trying to tell me which perm solution to use and where to wrap...oy! Our instructors kept coming over to "calm her down" and assure her that she was in the best hands she could possibly be in. (The students kept telling her she had the Perm Queen. LOL!)

Ironically, this was a FORMER student of CHD! She didn't make it to graduation, because she got sick, but of all people to be SO rude to the students...she should have known better. I've been assured that I'll never have to deal with her again. We'll see. Let's just say that this perm was the talk of the school all day Saturday and again today. Just so you know how frustrated she made me; I was VERY close to clocking myself out on Saturday, and going home, because I didn't want to deal with her anymore. ME. That frustrated. It was unreal. The owners and the president of the school made a special point today, to tell me that nobody else in the school could have handled that woman with such grace as I did - I got several pats on the back. I'm just glad it's over.

I was in a rush to get home, so I left the boom rods in the sink for counting this morning. The grand total? 254 boom rods - a new school record. That's 5 perms, in case you are counting.... Which brings me to my good news. I have now wrapped 101 perms - I guess I got that extra one in just for good measure :) My reward, are these beautiful new shears from the school. Lovely. Can't wait to use them. :)

OMG Leia! What a story. My head started to hurt after reading it - not only thinking about having all those gazillion rods on my head, but also having to deal with bossy client who think they have to tell you how to do your job. You have fully earned your sash and tiara as the perm queen! :)
