1. STRESS!!!! Yup, that's right - I'm finally stressed. Delphina started 3rd grade homeschool this weekend, we learned a new cut this week, and I had to start (and finish) a portfolio before Friday. Add all that to trying to maintain my normal mom life, and I'm a little strung out.
2. The new cut this week - CONFUSING!!! I had a really rough time with it, I won't lie. There's a reason we get so many manikin heads to work with! I did the cut 6 times before I felt like I had ANY idea how to do it on my own. The last 2 times I did it today, I finally felt comfortable with it, and my instructor only found a few spots to fix. Hallelujah! Tomorrow, my dear friend Lisa, will be coming to school, for my model day of this new haircut. I made a vow to NOT screw up her hair, and to make her uber cute....but she's so sweet, she tells me, "It's just hair. It will grow back." :)
Here is the new cut - 90º (uniform layers)

We're told this will look MUCH better on a human. ;) We cut and cut and cut until there's no hair to work with...then we save the manikins for men's cuts (next week). I call this lady "Butch" ;)

She'll probably look better as a man.

3. Homeschool - we started early this year, because I don't have as much time to work one-on-one with Delphina, as I did when I worked at home. We will be homeschooling primarily on Saturdays (with Ryan teaching) and Sundays & Mondays with me teaching, when I'm off school. During our basic training for barber school (through Labor Day) we get out at 3:30 instead of 5PM, so we are fitting a few extra school days on those nights, to help meet our 148 day Iowa requirement for teaching. So it gets a little busy here when I'm gone from 8-4:30, then have to fix dinner and homeschool before bedtime. Delphina was VERY excited to start 3rd grade, and she's done well so far, remembering what she learned last year. :) It will get easier when we get into the groove of it.

4. Portfolio - holy crap I let this one get to me. We have to make a portfolio of the 3 haircuts we've learned so far. Each portfolio must include a photo of ourselves, our name, 7 magazine photos of each haircut we've learned, and we get bonus points for including extra photos of any real-human haircuts we've done in school.

I am an over-achiever and perfectionist by nature. Don't act like you didn't know that. That being said, only having a few days to put together this portfolio...well, it stressed me out a wee bit. I will send a big shout out THANK YOU to my Gran, for her generous gift of scrapbooking supplies that she's been shipping here for the girls to play with - because I used a ton of it! Saved me $$$

0º/Blunt Cuts

The typed paper at the bottom is "how to cut and style a 0º hair cut, step by step" - required, of course.

180º/Long Layers (my favorite, so far)

90º (what we just learned)

See how much better it looks on people?

Projections - also required. This just shows how the hair is held when cutting each section. Look mom, I CAN draw!!! :)

The good thing about having to do this now, is that I will continue to add to it as we learn more cuts, and I will be filling it with more photos of people I've styled. Hey Anne, you're famous again! ;)

Looking forward to Saturday in the salon - both my girls are coming in for their first real haircuts by Mama. Can't wait! :)
