Basically, if somebody walked in that wanted their hair cut in one of the 2.5 ways we know how, OR if they just wanted it washed & styled, we were on call. Remember how yesterday I got bored, and I styled my manikin in an updo? One of my classmates, that's been through part of this program before (and had to drop out), said that I better watch it, because if one of the instructors sees that I have a knack for updos, they'll make me do them on Saturdays...and I'll have high schoolers and brides lining up to see me every week, because NOBODY in the salon likes to do updos! I guess they all complain??!! I told him I didn't care, because I've always liked doing updos for prom and weddings....Hey, Leia - watch what you say!!!
We had a wedding party of 9 come in to the salon this morning. My instructor immediately looked at me and said, "Leia! You take this one - do an updo!"(And she's from Bosnia, so you have to imagine her accent and know that everything Freida says, tends to come out in the form of an angry order) ;)
So, I took the girl back, and curled all of her LONG, blonde locks, and begged my instructor to help me pin her up (Hello! I was sweating down to my socks!!) The bridesmaid ended up looking beautiful, was very pleased with it, and I survived. Next time, I will have more confidence, and just do it myself! Sorry, no photo...I was so out of my element that I forgot! :(
My next client was a 10 year old girl. She had wavy hair clear down past her bum....and she wanted it cut off to her shoulders. Holy crap. I spent 15 minutes just washing her hair (it filled up my sink). Then I spent the next HOUR (no joke) picking tangles out of her hair. Her mother said she started refusing to let her brush it, so she said she had to cut it all off (this pleased the girl, because she said her hair was too hot anyway) *Duh!* I am not kidding, there were knots from the ends of her hair, all the way to her scalp line. It was unreal. I used 1/2 a bottle of some fancy de-tangler, and must have said "I'm so sorry!" about 100 times. :( She was so patient. I asked her if she'd like to donate her hair to a place that makes wigs for people that don't have hair - she had never heard of such a thing, but thought it sounded really nice. She left the hair with me, so I'll be sending it off as soon as it dries!
Here is Riley before:

And Riley after (this was the first time she smiled all day) :) I did my job right, I suppose!

I have 3 ponytails that are nearly 18 inches long each. What a special gift! And I was honored to do it! :)

And now, we are on vacation for ONE WHOLE WEEK!! Woo Hoo! Mall of America, here I come! :)

Leia - I got my hair cut & colored on Saturday, and my stylist (she's been doing hair for about 10 years) knicked her finger. She said even the old pros cut themselves once in awhile. ;-) Glad you're healing up!
