It's Color Week, Baby!

We are in the final stretch of basics, and it could not come at a better time! Perm week was exhausting, physically and mentally. I swear, my brain was actually aching.

Today we did an all-over color on our manikin (will get the photo tomorrow), and then we started learning color theory. This color wheel will be my #1 buddy until I have it memorized!

I appreciate our current instructor, for her "do it and learn it faster" techniques. Hands-on has always worked best for me. So today, when learning about the different colors, how they are made, and how they compliment each other....we played with Play-Doh :) We started with the 3 primary colors: Blue, Red, & Yellow. Then we made the 3 secondary colors, followed by the 6 tertiary colors. My artist-husband is tickled pink that I'm FINALLY having to study color theory, because he's been boring me with it for about 15 years now! ;) Maybe someday he'll be my color assistant...

We also studied the levels of color of hair, and how the levels change as we deposit or pull color from our hair. This explained quite well, why my hair turned bright orange when I attempted to take my very-blond hair to a beautiful red....in the 10th grade. Not my best moment. But, I did it myself, with a box, so there was nothing I could have done to fix it. Now I know that had I been able to add some blue to my color, it would have turned out quite lovely. We will be coloring each other's hair next Tuesday - I'll be counting the days!!! :)
